Purchase buildings as you can from the start, but do not buy the mine, row boat or boat dock right away. The boat dock should be first over the mine cave and row boat. Those can be purchased later if you have support from others. (TIP: FB acct can link your farm with others, before having to repair the neighborhood building.) And your support to them with help with their items needed. A purchase of one Smelter may aid others so you may wish to buy one when you can. (Without the mine) But the order of purchase remains on how you support others and how they support you.
But here are some suggestions recommended after having to play a farm with a broken RSS from level 16 and still broken at level 32.
1.With no Mine, no fishing hole and only the boat dock open or a smelter. And only the following
Bakery, Feed Mill x2, Dairy. Sugar Mill, Popcorn maker. BBQ Grill, Pie Oven, Loom, Sewing Machine, Cake oven and Ice Cream Maker. No Smelter or Juice Press my next purchase will be the Juice Press due to demands from orders and the price of items that can be sold or delivered via boat or truck.
Jeweler maker can be held off as well if someone will supply them to you. If you have a farmer in your neighborhood that has a Jeweler Maker supply them with the bars to make items. If you both trust each other. Jewelry not really a demanding item in the game. Nor the soup Kitchen. Honey Extractor, Candle maker, Sushi Bar, Salad bar Sandwich Bar. If you work together in supply the farm that has them and again trust them. As you you earn funds you can purchase the items later and advance your farm and others by working together.
After the fishing hole has been open, be sure to open the fishing spots as soon as you can. Then open the lobster trap maker and upgrade as soon as you can. Reason is that the produces that are from them sell for higher prices. So you can upgrade or buy new machines faster.. (NOTE: I recommended opening fishing spots before clearing of farm land) If everyone in your neighborhood works together with this goal you all will move forward faster. You get more from water than from green grass!!!
